We found out today that the preliminary search for a perfect bone marrow match doesn’t look great.  There are some registered donors found in Hong Kong that may be a perfect match, but it requires follow-up to be sure.  A perfect match is defined as having matched 10/10 specific proteins that doctors are looking for when doing a transplant.

We’ve been receiving some emails about people wanting to find out if they’re a match for Jeremy in regards to the bone marrow transplant.  Yes, we would love for everyone to register with the National Marrow Donor Program (http://www.marrow.org) to see if they are a match for Jeremy.  I believe if you register and put yourself in the database, the person who does the searches on the hospital side will be able to find you.

We’re not entirely sure how this will work, but we are asking for volunteers to sign up for donating bone marrow and to set up and hold some sort of registration drive.  The Asian American Donor Program (AADP) can help set up this drive.  Please visit http://www.aadp.org/hold-a-registration-drive/ for more information.  If you are able to be the point-person to coordinate this drive, please let us know as soon as possible.  We would really appreciate it, as the timing of it all is very urgent.

In regards to little brother being a match, his cord blood would be an ideal transplant if 1) he is actually a match and 2) if the cord is rich with enough stem cells.  If these two criteria aren’t met, then the next best thing would be an unrelated match.
